THE ARTIST

Annette LeMaire | Fine Art

I paint in both pastel and oil. For me, as a painter, each medium offers a different experience. Tactilely and emotionally, each provides a different level of intimacy with the canvas or other substrate. For the viewer my particular and subjective experience with either medium may not be evident nor is it necessarily relevant. Once a painting is viewed by others their personal aesthetic and sensory values begin to fill and recreate the canvas anew. My painting becomes "theirs" as well as "mine." Therein lies the glory and grace of painting. Painting is a gift that I give myself as well as a gift I share.

In fact, I have painted a subject in both mediums to experiment how each may influence the final work--what did I experience and how did my experience get translated into the work itself. Every day is a learning experience; always has been and I hope it always will be.

My art has largely concentrated on landscapes, both in Pennsylvania where I lived for many years and the Southwest where I now reside. Recently, however, I have been probing other subject matters, including what might be called "whimsy," as well as abstract art--all part of this adventure as an artist!

I am a member of varied art-related organizations. I am currently represented by Two Old Crows Gallery in Pagosa Springs, CO and I paint and sell works of mine and others at my own studio, Studio 2018, in Durango, CO.
